iDiscover
Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has launched a brand-new service called iDiscover to support the learning, growth and wellbeing of our county’s children and young people.

iDiscover is a new community of children, young people and those who care for them in Northamptonshire. It offers a wide range of free and fun activities, resources and information to inspire young people to explore who they are, grow as people and learn new things.

This new service and its activities have been shaped through co-production with children and young people. Activities include workshops, courses and webinars covering a range of themes supporting good mental health and wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and personal growth – all delivered completely free of charge as part of a safe and supportive community.

Any young person in Northamptonshire under the age of 25 years old can attend iDiscover activities, along with family members, carers and people who support them.

Young People and Anger
There is no getting away from the fact that young people face a lot of challenges, both in the world around them and within their changing bodies. It is therefore no surprise that often we are facing young people who become very emotionally charged and angry and as parents and teachers we want to support but may not always quite know the best way to navigate.

In this bulletin there are a couple of items relating to this. The first is a course being offered by Hope for Families and produced by the national charity Care for the Family. The second is an article I stumbled across and shared in this bulletin last year so am re-highlighting for families who might find it useful.

  1. Handling Anger in the Family Sessions by Hope for Families
Handling Anger is a 4-session course for anyone who wants to learn more about how to understand and manage anger in a safe and healthy way. It is produced by the national charity Care for the Family and will be run by Hope for Families, a registered charity working to support parents and carers living in Northamptonshire and the surrounding area. The charity do not want anyone to be excluded from attending this course or event and anyone is welcome to purchase a supported ticket using the promo code ‘bursaryscheme24’. Please enter this promo code when you select your ticket to receive a 50% discount (look for ‘Enter promo code’ in blue when you add your ticket). Registration includes the accompanying parent handbook (RRP. £9.99) and additional resources which will be given to you ahead of the first session. Each session is 2 hours long and is online. Throughout the course, the aim is to help you build strong family relationships and increase your confidence as a parent or carer, talking about how you and your child can understand and manage anger safely and healthily. The 4 sessions will run at the following times, and you are urged to attend every session to get the most out of the course.Wednesdays 5th June – 26th June 2024
Each session runs from 7:30pm – 9:30pmThe trained facilitators are parents and carers just like you and will be there to guide you through each session, making sure that you get the most out of your time together. They will share their own experiences (including many mistakes) and will share many laughs along the way.Places are limited – a maximum number of 12 participants per course to get to know each other well – so please do book ASAP to secure your place. To book your place please go to the Eventbrite page Handling Anger in the Family Registration, Wed 5 Jun 2024 at 19:30 | Eventbrite
  2. Anger, Rage and Explosive Outbursts: How to respond to your child or teen’s anger.
Being a parent of a teenager it can sometimes feel like a no-win situation and whatever we say as parents doesn’t seem to have the desired effect. The link below takes you to an interesting read if you are feeling you would like some suggestions.

Supporting young people through exams and results
It’s that time of year again when our young people in years 11 and 13 are coping with the in the stresses and challenges of exams. Last year Place2Be sent out some useful tip sheets which are attached to this bulletin. These include both supporting through the exams, but also the all-important results day which can be an emotional rollercoaster. There is also a tip sheet for young people.

As always on results days there will be help and support in school from colleagues and the careers team but in the meantime the attached documents may prove helpful in supporting your young people through such an important event in their life.

Finally, a reminder that over the holidays if you do have any safeguarding concerns, you can phone 101 or contact the MASH team (telephone: 0300 126 7000 or email: [email protected]) who are there to support throughout the year.
