Letters from the Headteacher

Dear parents and carers

This week has flown by with lots of activity in school. We started the week with a rendition of Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop me now’ by Mr Rees and our Year 10 band who were providing the musical accompaniment for a project with Year 7 promoting active participation in lessons and this was closely followed by an assembly to welcome our new Year 7 cohort for September at the start of their two transition days. Suffice to say that we had an amazing couple of days with Year 6 and we are incredibly excited to have them join us in September. We’ve ended the week with sixth form induction and it was really lovely to see Year 11 faces back in school and also to see some of the new faces hoping to join us in September. These induction events were punctuated by a fabulous art and design exhibition and a wonderful Summer Music Showcase on Wednesday! A huge thank you to all staff and students involved in these events which have had such a positive impact on our community.

PE Update

Mr Bennett writes “Monday the 1st July saw the Year 7 athletes that had qualified to compete in the County Schools Athletics Competition perform at Corby Athletics Track. They were part of the East Northants distrct team and were competing in a variety of events with all the students performed really well. In particular Millie- Anna Snell who won the 100m in an excellent time and Catherine Fairley who won the High Jump and are County Schools Champions in their events!

The following students all performed and were a credit to the school:

  • William Baker
  • Molly Burrows
  • Catherine Fairley
  • Eve Maddy
  • Leon Romanski
  • Millie-Anna Snell

We have also been extremely lucky with the weather and the wonderful efforts of Mr Roberts in running and supporting the many primary school sports days. The Wollaston students who have supported and led the events have represented the school exceptionally well and have been superb ambassadors for the school and the sports and leadership programmes.

Next week, we look forward to the whole school sports day on Tuesday 9th July. Students should attend the day in their Wollaston School PE kit and have plenty of water. In the event that they may need some sunscreen they will be responsible for bringing this to school and applying it regularly. We hope the weather is kind and look forward with eager anticipation to the events and student participation throughout the day.”

Duke Of Edinburgh Award Update

Mrs Ayling writes: “The Silver D of E team returned from a fantastic qualifying expedition in the north of the Peak District. It felt a little more like an autumnal trip than a summer trip with quite a bit of wind and rain on the first 2 days, however it did brighten up by the end. There were lots of games to be had at camp on the final night including some very competitive rounds of Splat and Mafia, and a lovely bright walking day to finish. All the Year 11 pupils on the trip were brilliant and a credit to themselves and the school. They showed great perseverance and teamwork – day 1 was a long and challenging day and they did not give up and supported each other through it. We had a brilliant time, and all students have passed the expedition section of their silver award. We hope they continue with the award whether here at Wollaston or elsewhere and wish them luck moving on to Gold.”
