Fixture Results

Match Report: Year 9 boys’ football National ESFA match at Campion

Final result: Campion 10 – 4 Wollaston

A tough afternoon for the Year 9 (U14) boys football team on Wednesday. The boys were keen to do well and the squad gathered ready for action. Due to a late drop out the team were down a player and this impacted their ability to attack and escape from their own half. The Campion team had some excellent players and were on top for much of the game. However, Wollaston were superb in the final quarter of the game and scored 4 goals in this purple patch. It was brilliant to see the resilience of the players on a tough afternoon and Wollaston’s goalkeeper Michael was the player of the match with some truly excellent moments and saves. The Year 9s are back in action against Wrenn School on Monday 30th and hopefully a better result will follow.

Match Report: Year 7 Boys v Weston Favell

Captain: Joey Harris

Man of the Match: Charlie Williamson (GK)

Final result: 2 -2. Wollaston Win 3-2 on penalties

Goal Scorers: Henry & Ty

Pen takers: Henry, Ty, Joey, Nathan, George &  Freddie

Both Teams Set up with 3 – 3 – 2 formation and Wollaston took the lead in the 1st 15 mins with Henry hitting a half volley into the top corner. The game played out with Wollaston controlling most of the game and holding a strong defence with Joey commanding the back line. Second half, and a wayward pass found its way on to the foot of a Weston Favell player who buried it in the bottom corner. Moments later from a set piece scrimmage in the box the ball bobbled over the line leaving Weston Favell 2 -1 up . With seconds left on the clock, Wollaston won a corner, and the team push forward overloading the Weston Favell Keeper. Henry provided a looping ball over the top to the back post that was met by Ty  and brought Wollaston level at 2 -2 and to take the game into penalties.

Wollaston quickly slotted in their first 2 penalties and with Charlie in goal pulling out two great saves. However, Weston Favell came back in quick succession burying their next two and Wollaston hitting the framework with their next two, leaving it down to the final penalty! Freddie stepped up and hit the ball straight down the middle, hitting the back of the net. Charlie made himself look big in goal, got a great hand to the last penalty, deflecting it and putting Wollaston School into the next round of the County Cup!

Great performance for the first outing of a new team in Year 7.
