Dear parents and carers

It has been an amazing week at Wollaston as we prepared for and then welcomed prospective parents and children currently in Year 6. It is always a wonderful evening, but this year seems to have exceeded our expectations for an event such as this. We had an astounding number of students who wished to help either in subject areas or as ambassadors. It was fantastic to see so many of our community be present and proud to show off what is good and great about Wollaston. We had over 250 students all in all and as a staff we are thankful to them all for their contribution last night- they certainly made the evening and feedback from our visitors was very positive. I was ably assisted in the main hall by six students who are at the bookends of their journey- three Years 7s so thank you to Summer, Harry and Amber and three Year 13s – thank you to Becca, Ben and Chester. All six students spoke with confidence and were highly engaging for three separate talks to parents and children. No mean feat whether you’re 11 or 18! We also have a promotional video for Year 6 that can be seen here.

Last night also saw our brand-new performing arts studio in operation, this is a supersized studio that will be used for drama, dance and music and is another positive addition to our school facilities. As we look forward to the end of the half term, we have a busy week ahead particularly for Year 11 with a trip to Silverstone on Monday for DT students, motivational sessions and exam readiness with motivational speaker and life coach ‘Action Jackson’ on Wednesday, PE practical moderation and also parents’ evening on Thursday! Our wonderful student leaders will have their first session of the year with a keynote speech by Action Jackson which will frame our development work for the year. I am looking forward to working with our leaders on Thursday to start this process.

Best wishes for the week ahead.
