Fixture Results
Year 9 County Cup Rugby
The very enthusiastic and positive Year 9 rugby team travelled to Sharnbrook School for the County Cup fixture. The boys were eager and ready to perform, and the warmup was vigorous and purposeful. After some quick organisation of team formations, the teams were ready to play. Sharnbrook scored first with a very well worked spell of possession which culminated in a cross-field kick pass which ended up in their wingers’ hands and scored in the corner.
Wollaston felt compelled to reply and very quickly dominated their opponents with hard fast and direct running with Jacob H scoring. Alfie B made a brilliant run through the middle of the opposition and Wollaston took the lead. This was the way of the game from then on with either team pushing their opponents at every part of their possession. By the end, the final try was scored by Wollaston but unfortunately, they lost by a point to a well prepared Sharnbrook team. An excellent game of rugby and the Wollaston players should be proud of their efforts in this game.
There was a superb evening of netball on Tuesday as our Year 7 and Year 8 had their first matches of the year. The teams faced Abbeyfield School, and both teams displayed skill, teamwork and determination to bring home two fantastic victories.
Year 7 Match:
The Year 7 team dominated their match, securing an impressive 11-1 win. From the start, our players demonstrated superb passing and quickly took control of the game. The team’s coordination and communication were exceptional, allowing them to build an early lead and maintain it comfortably.
Year 8 Match:
The Year 8 team continued the winning streak with a commanding 10-0 victory. The Year 8 defence was very strong, denying Abbeyfield any chance to score. The complete team performance was a joy to watch and a testament to their hard work and preparation.
Congratulations to all who participated – Well done!
Year 8 Boys Rugby
The Year 8 boys had their first rugby fixture of the year and were playing against a well drilled and competitive Campion School team.
The weather was wonderfully sunny with no wind- ideal conditions for the contest. The match started with some excellent play from the opponents spreading the ball wide at every opportunity and soon they had scored. After another spell, the opponents again were over the try line and Wollaston were a little shell shocked. A great run from Toby D and a brilliant solo try from Harry M soon put Wollaston back in the game and then it became a highly competitive and well fought match with both teams tackling extremely well and driving their opponents back. Thursday afterschool is the rugby training night and hopefully more of the team can attend so that they can really perform in a structured and highly effective way in their next match. Well done to Arthur for always getting back up and bringing his teammates into the game.
Year 7 Football
In a tough Year 7 boys’ football match, our team battled Wrenn School to a well-earned 0-0 draw, showing strong defensive skills throughout. Though no goals were scored, the game was filled with action and impressive teamwork, especially in defence.
George T was exceptional at the back, constantly disrupting Wrenn’s attacks with his precise tackles and intelligent positioning. His calmness under pressure and ability to read the game kept our defence organised, preventing any clear chances for the opposition. George’s solid performance made him a natural choice for one of the men of the match.
Meanwhile, Harry B’s goalkeeping was outstanding, stopping multiple shots from Wrenn’s attackers with quick reflexes and excellent judgment. Harry made a series of crucial saves, showing focus and confidence that lifted the team’s spirit. His handling and vocal direction from the goal were key in maintaining our clean sheet.
As the final whistle blew, our team left the pitch proud of their resilience and teamwork in this challenging game. George T and Harry B were deservedly named joint men of the match, each playing vital roles in securing the hard-fought draw.
