Dear parents and carers
This week’s key event of note has been the Year 11 Class of ’24 celebration event that took place on Thursday evening. It was well attended, and we welcomed current Year 12 students and those whose next steps have taken them further afield for an evening reflecting on the successes of their Wollaston School journey. We were also privileged to have Mr Ian James join us as guest speaker. He is an accomplished Northamptonshire based businessman who has had several career highs including being CEO of the Northampton based, and largest UK spice manufacturing company, British Pepper and Spice and he imparted some great advice and guidance for our audience that he has gleaned from his stellar career. Thanks go to Mr Jackson for organising the event and of course our staff, students, and parents for their attendance.
Today we also had the official handover of our newly refurbished performing arts space complete with new café space. This area will be accessible for lessons on Monday and during lunchtime for a select few guests whilst we trial the facilities and arrangements for using the space at capacity. We will update you next week with progress and further plans! We also had auditions this week for the Addams Family musical and it was wonderful to see so many students taking part in our new studio space. Can’t wait to see how this production take shape!
We have some excellent sporting success to share with you also. First, both Leon Sener and Charlie Higgs (Year 8) were selected to represent Cambridge United Football Academy in a match this week vs Norwich. This is a huge achievement, and we wish them well with their progress in the academy.
Secondly, we have also heard recently that Oliver Scola, an ex-student who was at Wollaston from Year 7 to Year 11 has been selected to play for the U20 England Rugby Six Nations squad. Oliver was placed on the England Rugby pathway scheme 18 months ago, but had his progress cut short when he sustained an ACL injury requiring surgery and a year out of sport. He recovered from this and started to play again in September 2024 and has subsequently been selected for the U20 Six Nations squad. The first game was last night in Ireland ending in a victory for England. Congratulations to Oliver for a tremendous accomplishment.
