Letters from the Headteacher

Dear parents and carers

We have had a great first week back in school and I have been hugely impressed with the engagement and focus in lessons of all classes that I have visited this week.

As outlined in previous correspondence we are playing some catch-up with some students who have got into some poor habits around uniform following the renovation of the performing arts block and the need to wear PE kit to school on the days that they had dance. My senior team and teachers are working hard to ensure that our high standards are met, and you will have noticed that for students arriving without the correct uniform there will be some communication home. Please could I ask that all parents support our young people to meet the standard of unform expected for our students. Despite, my previous notices and work on the gates in the mornings I have been saddened today to see many students wearing leggings to school. Can all parents please be advised that leggings should not be worn to school. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

We were also pleased to welcome 80 or so Year 11 students and families to the Excellence Tie Event on Tuesday. It was a lovely event, and thanks must go to Mr Logan and Mr Matthews for organising the event. I was exceptionally proud to see so many of Year 11 students being recognised for their consistency in demonstrating our values of kindness, community, and ambition. I have also been exceptionally pleased to see how focussed Year 11 are towards their exams and the high levels of engagement in Easter School, their lessons this week and revision sessions that have been taking place. Not long to go now until the whole cohort sit their first exams!

Careers News

Head of Careers, Mr Myers writes: ‘It was a pleasure to welcome Trudie Tebbut from Bedford College to the year 8 assembly this week. Trudie focused on the importance of gaining experiences of different environments such as the forthcoming World of Work Day . She also described various options for students once they complete their compulsory education and was able to show the wide variety of courses offered by Bedford College. Many thanks to Trudie.

Also,  a polite reminder that Mr Myers is available every Tuesday lunch time for students in year 11 – year 13. This is a great time to discuss any issues regards students’ destinations when they leave school.’

English Students Write to Keir Starmer!

Head of English, Sarah Engler writes,: “Students in Year 8 were asked to write a letter to Sir Keir Starmer with their thoughts and feelings about refugees and immigration after reading Ele Fountain’s ‘Boy 87’. They were asked to think of solutions to issues relating to this. They were incredibly mature in their outlook. Their letters were sent directly to 10 Downing Street and we received a reply with two weeks! Please see the attached letters for more detail.
