Letters from the Headteacher

Dear parents and carers

This week saw the last few exams taking place for Years 11 and 13. The exam season has passed really successfully, and our students have been commended by invigilators and staff for their attitude and behaviour, which we of course expect to be impeccable, but it is always nice to be told by visitors to the school how amazing our students are! I would like to congratulate all students who have sat exams this year for their approach and conduct and wish them well for their next adventures if they are at the end of their Wollaston journey.

Parent Governor Vacancy

We have an exciting opportunity for a parent who may wish to fulfil the role as parent governor on the Wollaston School governing board. Please see the attached advert from our Chair of Governors, Mike Thomas, for more details.

Year 7 Transition Days

Our transition days take place on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd of July this year and we are very excited to meet and welcome our new cohort to Wollaston. It is a day that for some Year 6 students can be a little daunting and what our students always do so well is to make them feel welcome and to look after them. The arrangements for transition will have some impact for our current Year 7 as on the transition days Year 6 will be using the Year 7 playground as a base during break and lunchtime and therefore current Year 7 will need to locate themselves in one of the other playgrounds or on the field on those days. For any Year 7s that may find this change tricky to manage, if they could speak with Mr Rees we will work with them to ensure they are looked after on those days.

The Big Bang!

Mr Pugh writes, “On Thursday 20th June, fifteen Year 7 students went to the Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham.
The aim of the fair is to show off potential career paths within STEM subjects to students and also to show them new advancements in technology and engineering. There were over 50 exhibitors at the event which included companies covering a wide range of areas. This included the National Grid, Highways agency, RNLI, Royal Entomological Society and Jaguar to name a few.

The students managed to take part in a range of different challenges, and we are hopeful to have a few of the companies come into school next year to run events for other students across all key stages. The day finished with a show from Medical Mavericks called Human Guineapig which showed off different careers in medicine and different medical procedures, mostly involving ultrasounds. All students and staff had a great day and returned to school excited about future STEM opportunities.”

Exciting Dance Workshop Opportunities
We are really excited to invite two professional dancers to deliver 2 exciting workshops for students here at Wollaston. These will both be after school 3-15pm-4.45pm on the 25th June and 2nd July.

25th June
Elliott Richardson is currently a teacher at the prestigious Addict Dance Academy in Leicester. He has performed on the X Factor, at the Brit Awards and has recently been a dancer for pop star Tate McRae in her recent UK performances. He will be delivering a street dance workshop. This is an intermediate level class so would be suitable for students with some dance experience and are likely to opt for GCSE. This workshop is £15 and bookable on parent pay.

2nd July
Harrison Vaughn has recently appeared on BBC’s The Greatest Dancer and as a child star appeared in the TV show ‘Taking The Next Step’. Even though he is know for his explosive jumps and acrobatic tricks, he will be delivering a fun jazz routine suitable for all levels. This workshop is £20 and bookable on parent pay.
If your child is interested in either of these workshops, please email [email protected] to have this item accessible on parent pay.
