Dear Year 11 Parent/Carer,
The first two weeks of the new half term have been both eventful and productive for our Year 11 students! It was pleasing to hear just how many students and parents attended the Sixth Form open evening. I hope we have record numbers of students returning for Sixth Form in September 2025 to continue their education journey with us here at Wollaston!
This half term we have increased the number of intervention and revision sessions running for Year 11 as part of our year long programme of study. Please do continue to refer to the revision and intervention timetable sent out and encourage your child to attend as many sessions as they can. Support with this will be vital in helping improve retrieval skills and being able to use these effectively in their upcoming mocks and GCSE exams.
In terms of mocks, these will be running throughout November. A schedule has been emailed home to parents as well as printed and given to individual students. In addition to the after school sessions for revision and intervention, we are also running revision based tutor time sessions twice a week, so it is essential that students are on time to tutor time each morning to get the most out of their time. Last year during the Year 10 mocks, the entrance and exit to exam spaces by our students was exemplary. We wish for this to continue with the Year 11 mocks so that students can arrive to the exams in the best frame of mind possible. If any students are struggling to cope with the pressures of mock exams, please do not hesitate to make us aware, and we will offer support and extra guidance moving forwards.
This week we held our first character development day of the year which was centred on revision, working smart, self-confidence and target setting. We had two incredible guest speakers come in to school to speak with and engage our students in these topics. It was great to see so many students genuinely taking an interest in the conversations and information shared and I hope it is something they all found helpful.
Aside from in school events, we also have the Drama and Holocaust trips on the horizon as part of our ‘Nothing by accident’ programme. We very much look forward to hearing all about the events and experiences students share on these venturers. In addition to this, we have our first every Christmas social approaching. The date for this will Thursday 19th December and plans are well underway to ensure students have an evening of entertainment where they can enjoy themselves following their mocks and moving into the Christmas holidays. More information will follow.
As we move into the mock exam window and towards the Christmas holidays, this time of year can be difficult for Year 11 students. Please can I ask that we have your continued support in keeping attendance high so your child can receive the support they need in their learning, revision and well-being if required.
Many thanks
Mr Logan & the Year 11 Team
