On Monday 4th of March our Y7 Netball Team took part in a netball competition at KBA school. The competition was made up of 18 schools across the county. This was the first major competition where the team faced 8 different schools in back to back matches.
The girls played extremely well and their confidence and performance improved as they took part in each match. They managed to win two of their matches, drew two and lost 4. Considering it was their first major fixture as a team and lots of them tried out different positions than what they normally play, they did brilliantly.
Well done girls!
Year 8 football. Wednesday 5th March @ Sir Christopher Hatton
The Y8 football team competed in the first round of the district football tournament on Wednesday 5th March at Sir Christopher Hatton school. The dry conditions had made for some hard pitches which made it difficult for the boys to get the ball down and play their usual passing game. Wollaston played Ferrers in the first game and dominated possession wining 3-1. The second game was against Sir Christopher Hatton, despite being a stronger team, Wollaston still played some excellent attacking football. They rued a host of missed chances early on to take a lead. Hatton took the lead with a defection off a Wollaton defender, with Wollaston pushing forward at every opportunity, Hatton’s rapid striker latched on to two long balls make it 3-1 to the home team. The league continues for the next 3 weeks.
The Wollaston girls U15s girls played two great matches, winning both 2-0 with strong performances.
In the first game against Ferrers, Wollaston started well, scoring two early goals in the first half. The team worked hard together to keep their lead, defending strongly and staying in control for the rest of the game. Their effort paid off, securing a solid 2-0.
The second match against Sir Christopher Hatton was another strong performance. Wollaston scored one goal in the first half then another in the second, showing great teamwork and determination. Staying strong as a team and keeping another clean sheet finishing with another 2-0 victory!!
The Y7 boys were in action on Monday for the Boys District Rugby tournament held at Wollaston School. This was a four-school tournament with Wrenn, Weavers and Sharnbrook.
Although this was the first match for the year 7’s, the boy’s regular attendance at training meant that they were prepared and ready to play. Wollaston started extremely well against Weavers School and scored two early tries. Unfortunately, after this, Weavers woke up and began playing some hard running rugby with their big and fast players. Wollaston put their hearts into it but were outscored 6-2 by the end of the game. Wrenn were next and some super rugby from Wollaston saw them win 5-3. Sharnbrook were the final game and Wollaston needed to win this match to ensure they qualified for the next round of competition. Sharnbrook scored 1st and Wollaston were quick to reply with an excellent try. Wollaston took the lead and lasted for the next 5 minutes until tiredness set in and Sharnbrook’s superior squad size meant they had fresher players to bring on. It was a superb afternoon of rugby with Wollaston players tackling well and running hard with the ball. A huge level of play and enjoyment was had by the Wollaston team. George and John were leading players with Acer and Lewis really driving things forwards.
