We are thrilled to announce that our Junior Girls athletics team delivered an outstanding performance in Round 1 of the English Schools’ Track & Field Cup, held recently at the Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire County event.
The team amassed an impressive 299 points, coming first in our County and third between Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. 299 is one of the highest scores in the region, thanks to a series of exceptional efforts across both track and field events. The fantastic achievement not only secured them first place on the day but also puts them in a strong position regionally.
The ESAA Track & Field Cup is a prestigious national competition structured across three rounds.
- Round 1 is a local qualifying meet, where schools compete regionally and accumulate points based on individual performances.
- Round 2, the Regional Finals, brings together the best-scoring schools from each area, with separate ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals based on Round 1 results.
- The top teams nationally from the A Finals then qualify for Round 3, the National Final, where they compete for the overall title.
The Cup emphasises collective success as each of the athletes earn points for their distances and times, making every individual effort critical to the team’s overall score. It’s a true celebration of teamwork, resilience, and determination.
Among the many standout performances:
- Millie stormed to victory in both her 100m and Long Jump heats.
- Ciara and Catherine each claimed wins in their High Jump events.
- Taya showed speed and skill in the 75m Hurdles.
- Eve and Molly both powered through to win their 300m heats.
- Violet ran a superb race to win her heat in the 800m.
We couldn’t be prouder of the dedication, talent, and spirit displayed by every member of the team. We wish them every success as they prepare for the next stage of the competition in June.
On Tuesday 6th May, the Wollaston school sports leaders organised a year 3 & 4 quick stick tournament for 6 local primary schools. There were teams from Bozeat, Denton, Cogenhoe, Little Houghton, Grendon and Irchester. The leaders umpired the games and helped coach the primary school pupils during the tournament. There were seven teams with Little Houghton entering two teams into the tournament. Each team consisted of 4 player and 2 substitutes. The leaders umpired the 7-minute games and kept the scores as every team played each other. The sports leaders were Bobby, Harris, Leo, Cameron, Charlie, Ty, and Edward. All of the leaders have also attended Mr Crooks hockey club earlier in the year, so understood the rules of hockey and have played themselves. The leaders were lenient with the foot and back of the stick rule to start with but tightened up the rules as the year 4 & 3 pupils improved their hockey skills. The games were often very close with only a single goal deciding each game.
Congratulations to Denton & Cogenhoe for both achieving 15 point and finishing joint first.
