Yardley Sports Day: Wollaston Sports Leadership

On Thursday 19th June, Mr. Roberts led 18 enthusiastic sports leaders back to their roots at Yardley Hastings Primary School to support its annual Sports Day. Many of the sports leaders were proud former pupils, eager to give back and cheer on their younger siblings.

It was a joyful reunion, with former students reconnecting with beloved teachers, who remarked on how wonderful it was to see the young people they had once taught growing into such responsible and kind leaders.

Throughout the day, the sports leaders ran ten multi-skills activities, engaging pupils in challenges that tested their throwing, catching, and bowling skills. Their energy, encouragement, and teamwork created a vibrant and inclusive environment for everyone involved.

To wrap up the event, Mr. Roberts and Mr. Perry started off the running races, where sports leaders awarded stickers to the top three finishers in each race—ending the day with cheers, smiles, and a sense of shared achievement.

A huge well done to all the Year 7, 8, and 9 Sports Leaders who supported the open primary cricket tournament on Thursday!

Our students did an outstanding job umpiring and guiding the games, showing great teamwork across the year groups. Their patience, enthusiasm, and clear communication helped the primary school participants enjoy and understand the game. A special shoutout to those who were taking on a leadership or umpiring role for the very first time—you rose to the challenge brilliantly and made a real impact. Primary staff were full of praise for the support and encouragement our leaders provided throughout the day. Well done to all our Sports Leaders for their fantastic effort and leadership!

Year 7 District Rounders Competition

Wrenn School hosted the Year 7 District Rounders Tournament, bringing together teams from across the area for an exciting afternoon of rounders. The Wollaston School team showed great determination and improvement throughout the competition. After losing their first game, the girls grew in confidence and skill, winning their next two matches and finishing second in their pool. This set up a third-place playoff against Rushden Academy, where Wollaston delivered their strongest performance of the day, earning a well-deserved 6.5 – 2.5 victory. A brilliant team effort and clear progress in every game, well done to all involved, and thank you to Wrenn School for hosting a fantastic tournament!

Box End Park Trip – Celebrating Our Magnificent 7 Achievers!

On Thursday 19th June, 50 of our fantastic Year 10 GCSE PE students were given the opportunity to attend a reward trip to Box End Park, Bedford, in celebration of their hard work and dedication as part of our Magnificent 7 Achievers initiative. This trip recognised students who had shown exceptional commitment throughout the academic year—whether by attending 7 or more intervention sessions, maintaining a Grade 7 or higher working grade, or achieving a 70% success rate or more on EverLearner.

The day was centred around fun, challenge, and celebration, with students tackling the inflatable Aqua Park obstacle course—a high-energy and physically demanding activity that tested their fitness, resilience, and teamwork. From climbing walls and jumping platforms to giant slides and splash zones, the students threw themselves into the experience with enthusiasm and determination.

Staff at Box End Park commented on the excellent behaviour and attitude of our students, who were polite, respectful, and supportive of one another throughout the day. It was a pleasure to see them working together, cheering each other on, and pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. We are incredibly proud of how well our students represented Wollaston School—not only through their achievements that earned them a place on the trip, but also in the way they conducted themselves on the day. Their efforts and attitudes truly embody the values we strive for in the PE department and across the wider school community.

A huge well done to all students involved—you should be very proud of everything you’ve accomplished, and we hope the day served as a well-deserved celebration of your success. We look forward to continuing to reward and recognise excellence as we move into the final stretch of the school year!
