Admiral House
Admiral House aims to produce confident, compassionate and capable young adults who thrive against adversity.
‘Butterflies are built on change’
Admiral House is a provision which offers environment and tools needed to nurture and support students who struggle to participate in mainstream learning.
Admiral House is located in the heart of the main Wollaston School site and has its own separate gated access. The stand-alone building has two well equipped classrooms offering a calm environment which ensures students feel safe and secure. Each classroom has interactive whiteboard screens, teaching resources and reduced visual stimulus, a fully fitted kitchen, two bathrooms, and a ‘snug’ which allows students to spend time away from the classroom environment. Our secure outside area includes a ‘Sensory Pod’ with a range of dimmable lights and music, together with soft furnishing and adjustable padded soft play items. The garden also has a raised fishpond, sunken trampoline and a large 12-seater wooden dining table, all of which can be enjoyed by the students, during breaks and lunchtimes.
Admissions and Eligibility Criteria
Students with placements within Admiral House must have an Education Health Care Plan and have a primary need of ASD and include a noted need of ‘communication and interaction’. Admiral House has 12 places, with each placement is agreed by North Northants Local Authority SEND team.
Student admissions are determined by consultations between Wollaston School and North Northants Council, in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice.
Our Provision
Admiral House is specifically designed to meet the need of students using multiple strategies and approaches to structure an inclusive learning environment for our students. The fully trained staff work alongside the existing Wollaston SEN Team, to provide a blended education model, ensuring that support is holistic and focused on the individual needs of each child.
Admiral House is intended to support students who can cope academically with mainstream lessons but who may struggle with feelings and emotions, that prevent them from accessing learning during the school day.
Admiral House provides an inclusive and supportive environment which allows students to follow a bespoke curriculum. Students are able to access a wide range of interventions, to develop communication and life and social skills. We have strong communication and positive relationships with our families and believe that this child centered approach is essential for us to be able to meet the needs of our students.
Admiral House provision gives students the tools they need to enable them to cope with their school day alongside planned integration into mainstream lessons.
Staffing
Admiral House has four permanent members of staff offering continuity and consistency to students accessing this provision. Our staff are experienced and trained in how to best support students, to maximise their achievements and to develop independent and supported learning strategies including cooking and life skills.
