Letters from the Headteacher

Dear parents and carers

Another amazing week at Wollaston with lots to share with you. Please also see the Year 11 newsletter here and the PE newsletter here

We held our Remembrance Service on Monday at 1100 and it was a very poignant time of reflection for the school community and I must say observed with great reverence by all students who were a real credit in the way that they organised themselves and listened to the readings and the last post being played and then got themselves back to lessons.  Thank you also to all families who prepped their children with information for our poppy display- it has made a very visual impact on our main hall corridor!

A reminder that we have professional training days on Friday 22nd November and Monday 25th of November and school will be closed to all students on this day.

Careers News

Head of Careers, Mr Myers writes: ‘We were delighted to welcome Jamie Mace and Stefan Merrison from the specialist music college , Waterbear , as part of Character Development Day. All GCSE and A level Music students experienced an interactive presentation based upon Careers in Music and possible courses to follow. It was a delight to observe students ignoring the school bell at the end of the day and chatting to Jamie and Mace. Some comments from students are below :

Alfie – ‘it was good to learn about a specialist music college’.

Ano – ‘ I learnt a lot about lots of different careers in the music industry’

Oliver – ‘ The session was very insightful and personalised. The presenters had a lot of passion for and experience of the music industry ‘

It was also pleasing to hear recently that the number of Wollaston School parents and students attending the Careers webinars , provided by Dale Willis of mygreat first job was such that we were placed 3rd in the UK regards number of viewers. Many thanks to all concerned and to Dale for such a great service.’

Music Update

Head of Music, Mrs Hollis-Brown writes: ‘I was delighted and honoured to be invited and attended the NMPAT “Youth In Concert” on Sunday 10th November to support many of our Wollaston School Musicians!

The Concert was fantastic with top quality performances from County Youth Concert Band (CYCB), County Youth Choir (CYC), County Youth Brass Band (CYBB), County Youth Big Band and County Youth Orchestra (CYO). The Wollaston School students that were involved were Sara Cundell (CYC), Charlie Harris (CYBB), Elana Hale (CYBB), Miriam Bennett (CYO), Sophie Harris (CYO) and Evie Bush (CYO). I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the students on their outstanding performances. I want to congratulate Rowan Edgecombe in Year 13 for winning the Gordon Robinson Award, for his contributions and commitment to the NMPAT Wellingborough Music Centre. The award was presented at the “Youth In Concert”. I was extremely proud of all our students that were involved- well done!’
